East Kazakhstan region is a subnational entity of the Republic of Kazakhstan. East Kazakhstan region shares border with China and Russia. Also it has a common border with Pavlodar, Almaty and Karaganda regions. The area is 283,3 thousand of square km. The region has significant resource reserves including polymetallic ores, light and rare metals and others.
The number of population is 1 395 324 people as of the census of 2016 (8% of total population of Kazakhstan). The city of Ust-Kamenogorsk is the capital of the region (population is 316 699 people).
East Kazakhstan region is the most industrially developed region in Kazakhstan. About 600 large and medium enterprises are functioning in the region. Non-ferrous industry, machine building, power industry, food and consumer goods industries are the key industries in East Kazakhstan region. Agricultural sector includes grain growing and animals breeding.
